U14 '74 Boys Elite Punch Ticket to USYS Nationals

Congratulations to our FC 1974 u14 Boys Elite for advancing to the USYS National Finals in Overland Park, Kansas, next July, as they finished first in the White Division with a 5-0-2 record.  They will be the first boy’s team in club history to advance to the USYS National Finals.

Early in November the team travelled to Greensboro, North Carolina to compete in the first weekend of the event. The team opened the event with a 3-0 win vs Players SC from Nevada, and followed with a 2-1 win over a very good Sporting Santa Clara team from northern California. Unfortunately, bad weather ended the games that weekend.

In the second leg of the tournament, the boys traveled to Las Vegas last weekend to finish the league with 5 games.  FC74 opened the event with a huge matchup vs an also unbeaten Kings Hammer Academy from Kentucky, which they drew 0-0. Friday’s afternoon game saw our FC74 boys beat Charlotte Soccer Academy from North Carolina 2-0. This win started the run to the division title. On Saturday, back to back 1-0 wins vs FC Alliance from West Virginia and Ukranian Nationals from eastern Pennsylvania, saw the boys through to the top of the division with one game to go. Other results in the group showed that no matter what happened on the last day, we would win the division.  The last game of the weekend saw our team finish with a 0-0 draw vs Oklahoma Energy FC.  ‘The boys played teams at a very good level, but by showing a fantastic style of play and great attacking/defensive balance, the team was able to prevail, ‘said Coach Memo Marin. In 7 National League games, the team gave up only 1 goal – a huge credit to the entire group, but especially to the defensive players and goalkeepers. ‘The team was unified not only during the games, but also off the field. Our parents were also great and gave the boys tremendous support,’ Coach Memo added. The team still has an opportunity to play in IYSA State Cup, Premier 1 of the Midwest Conference National League and Region II Championships, but have already booked their ticket to the National Finals. Michael Zovistoski added, ‘This is a great accomplishment for the players and families, Coach Memo, and the club.  The team has excelled playing the possession style soccer that the club believes in and shows that striving towards player development breeds team success. We are very proud of them.’

We are ’74!
