SEASON
Season runs April 14/15 - May 19/20. Regularly scheduled games will be on Saturdays (all day) and/or Sunday afternoons, at the Libertyville Township Soccer Complex (LTSC) on Winchester Rd. (between Butterfield Rd. & Rt. 45). If a full day of games is rained-out, they will be rescheduled the weekend after the regularly scheduled season, for individual games, please see procedures on Schedule Page.
UNIFORMS & EQUIPMENT
Each child will receive a jersey to be worn on game day that is theirs to keep. They may be worn to practice.
If jersey has to be exchanged (provided GLSA has inventory), jersey must be in reusable condition (no additional printing or alterations.) Black bottoms are recommended, but not provided. Soccer shoes are recommended, but not mandatory.
All players must wear shin guards at all practices and games. They should be size appropriate, and referees check
before each game. Coaches will not allow players to practice without shin guards.
All players must remove watches, jewelry, earrings (no starter studs), metal hair beads, etc.) at practices & games.
All players must bring their own soccer ball to practice. . . . Preschool-2nd = size 3; 3rd-6th = size 4; 7th-12th = size 5
If a player wears eyeglasses, then sports safety glasses must be worn during practices or games.
TEAMS
Players are divided by gender and grade, and teams are formed around the number and location of coaches. Sorts are done by neighborhoods, schools, geographic location, and location of coaches, as registrations come in. If a neighborhood or school doesn’t have enough parent volunteer coaches, then players are put on teams in neighborhoods that do have coaches available. If more parents volunteer to coach in a grade level than there are teams, then not everyone will be able coach. In the event that we lose a coach, then GLSA will ask parents on that roster to come forward to coach, to keep that team intact. If no one comes forward, then the team is disbanded and players spread out on the teams with openings, but if teams are filled, the registration fee is refunded. GLSA will not issue a refund or move players to another team because practice times or locations conflict with other activities, or they’re not with their best friend. Coaches decide on their team’s practice day & time, so if this is of utmost importance to you, then volunteer to coach.
ROSTERS
Preschool – Kindergarten = 10 (play 2- 3v3) ; 1st – 4th = 10 (play 6v6), 5th/6th = 12 (play 8v8); 7th/12th = 15 (play 11v11)
COACHES
Coaching assignments are done on availability of teams and number of coaches within a Division. If you are assigned a team, you’ll be notified by the 1st week of March, via email, of your team assignment, and details on the Coach’s Clinic, to be held March 20th.“KidSafe Risk Management Disclosure Statement” is required of all fall Coaches and Assistant Coaches, for a background check. They are good for 1 school year. This is a requirement of the Illinois Youth Soccer Association (IYSA), and as a member, we must comply with its policies. As part of the Kid Safe program, we are required to do a background check on everyone involved with coaching children. This information is kept confidential. On form: League is = Recreational / Club is = GLSA / Social Security No. required. (Download under Forms)
PRACTICES
Practice sites, dates, and times are decided upon by the coach, and held in neighborhood parks or school grounds. Cooperate with coaches on scheduling practices, developing treat schedules, and assisting as needed. Coaches put in countless hours for your children, and are not compensated for their time. GLSA will not issue a refund or move players to another team because practice times or location conflict with other activities, or not with their best friend. Only exception is if the move is to a team that’s short on players, and would not make teams uneven. Coaches decide their team’s practice day & time, so if this is of utmost importance to you, then volunteer to coach .
GAMES
Games are played at Libertyville Township Soccer Complex (LTSC complex). A field map of the LTSC complex is under the COMPLEX tab. Game schedules for the season will be posted under RECREATIONAL tab, under Schedules. Any LTSC complex closings are posted on the front page of the GLSA website.
REFEREES
Youth referees must be 12 years of age, (12-15 yrs. must obtain a work permit) and are paid. A Referee Clinic will be held prior to the season, March17 or 21. Check the website for details. Youth referees are not professional referees, and everyone is expected to respect referees’ decisions and not disturb them during the match. Coaches complete referee assessments for each game, and constructive criticism can be written on these assessments cards. Misconduct by players or parents toward a referee, including abusive language, may result in game forfeit and/or suspension of the violator.
REFUND POLICY
Deadline for refunds is March 1st. Must be submitted to GLSA in writing, via email, nharger@glsa.org, or fax, (847) 362-7259.
No late fees or volunteer exemption fees are refunded, just the registration fee.
After March 1st, refunds only issued for medical or relocation reason.
